The 56th annual Grammy Awards wasn’t too eventful but a few of this year’s winners caused a bit of Internet chatter.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis walked home with four awards, including Best New Artist and Best Rap Album, which led the rapper to text Kendrick Lamar and screencap it for Instagram. “It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you,” Macklemore said in a long text after beating Lamar in the Best Rap Album category, among others.
It wasn’t Taylor Swift’s night either, as the “All Too Well” singer lost to Kacey Musgraves in the Best Country Album category and Daft Punk in the Album of the Year category. The robots, or Daft Punk, won five times throughout the night, but didn’t utter a single word.
The best acceptance speech had to go to Jay Z for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, though. After taking home the award for the Justin Timberlake-assisted single “Holy Grail,” Mr. Carter thanked God for the award and his wife and told Blue she now had a gold sippy cup. Translation: This is nothing to me.
